Low-income families face special problems in managing money.
Helping these families to manage is a central part of family support work, especially when poverty can lead to homelessness and child neglect.
FLIP is a web-based Financial Literacy and Numeracy Project developed to enable welfare support workers to assist families with limited resources, by providing training, information and valuable links.
This site provides support workers with ideas for working with their communities to further assist low-income families.
Family support workers need to assist families to:
- Get the income to which they are entitled
- Cope with annual bills and to budget for recurring expenses
- Manage debt and obtain more specialised help
- Handle changes in family circumstance
- Avoid common consumer traps
