Samira lives with her husband and two children aged three and six. Samira’s husband Ari earns $30,000 gross a year. The family rent their home privately. Samira does not work outside the home. Samira’s three year old son Justin attends child care. Samira’s six year old daughter, Nadia has recently been diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome, and as a result has a significant developmental delay.

You want to check that the family are getting their full entitlements. Which entitlements should you ask about?

Check that the family are receiving:

  • Parenting Payment (Part Entitlement)

  • Family Tax Benefit A and B (Amount of B will depend on Parenting Payment)

  • Child Care Benefit

  • Carer Allowance

  • Health Care Card for Nadia

  • Rent Assistance.

The family are eligible for Carer Allowance because of Nadia’s disability. This is a non-means tested payment. They are eligible for rent assistance because they are eligible for more than the base rate of Family Tax Benefit A.
