Lana has just become the full-time carer of her grandson Martin, aged three years.  Martin’s mother has just died, and his father is in prison serving a 15 year sentence. Lana receives Age Pension and lives in public housing. Martin goes to child care two days a week.

What additional Centrelink entitlements may Lana receive as well as her Age Pension?

Lana may be eligible for:

  • Family Tax Benefit A and B

  • Double Orphan Pension

  • Child Care Benefit (up to 50 hours).

Lana is able to receive Family Tax Benefit A and B because she is Martin’s full time guardian. She can receive Double Orphans Pension because of the particular circumstances of Martin’s parents. Centrelink gives extended access to Child Care Benefit to grandparent carers.
