Planning Cash Flow
Doing a budget can help families plan their cash flow more effectively.
For families receiving Centrelink payments as a significant part of their income, it may be helpful to have instalments deducted through Centrepay to pay regular expenses such as rent, phone, power, fines or child care fees.

Some payments such as insurance or power bills can be paid in regular instalments using automatic debit from the family’s back account, as long as the family can keep track of the payments and ensure that the money is available in their account. Otherwise they may have to pay a penalty.
For any bill that comes with a coded strip and is payable at Australia Post it may be possible to make up a personal payment card by laminating the strip, and asking Australia Post staff to swipe it. This means the family can make regular payments when they know they have the money available.
