Recognise that families may not feel comfortable talking about money until a trusting relationship has developed

Families will often raise issues with a worker once they trust them that they have not been prepared to raise, or have even denied having before.

Demonstrating that can help the family make changes in other aspects of life may encourage confidence that you can help with money issues which they may have believed were too difficult or embarrassing to raise.

Don’t assume that the family doesn’t have any money issues just because they weren’t flagged early on.
